The problem

Oil & gas emissions outgrew the spreadsheet.

Inventories built in Excel were fine for a corporate report. They struggle when regulators, verifiers and buyers start asking how each tonne was calculated.

    Spreadsheets hide the engineering

    Gas compositions pasted by hand, standard and normal cubic metres mixed up (about 5.5% apart), factors with no reference. Nobody can say which version produced last year's number.

  2. 02

    Verification pressure is rising

    Verifiers working to ISO 14064-3 and EU ETS rules want a trail from each reported tonne back to the meter, the gas analysis and the factor, not a folder of linked workbooks.

  3. 03

    Methane is now regulated

    OGMP 2.0 asks for source-level methane reporting, and the EU Methane Regulation adds measurement, LDAR and venting and flaring rules. Generic carbon tools model Scope 1 as fuel × factor.

Who is EmitLedger for?

Oil & gas operators with a handful to a few dozen assets — FPSOs, platforms, gas plants, terminals and compressor stations — plus drilling and FPSO contractors who report to several clients, and consultancies that run inventories for others.

Do we have to give up Excel?

No. EmitLedger generates locked Excel templates from your own source register, one per asset and year. Your teams fill them in as they do today; the platform validates every cell, shows a preview of what changes, and returns a marked-up error report when something is wrong. Existing workbooks can be mapped once and imported every month.

Which calculation methods do you use?

Methods follow the API Compendium and OGMP 2.0 for oil & gas sources, with IPCC defaults as fallback, inside a GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1 inventory. Each method is versioned, and every result records the method version, factors and gas composition used. See the methodology page for detail.

Can a verifier audit the numbers?

That is the point. Every result traces back to the meter reading or Excel row, the gas analysis, the emission factor and its reference, and the method version. The platform is designed to support third-party verification to ISO 14064-3, with read-only, time-limited verifier access.

Can we report with different GWP sets?

Yes. Results are stored as tonnes of each gas and converted to CO₂e when you report, so the same data can be reported with AR5 values for one programme and AR6 for another.

How is our data kept separate from other companies?

Every client is a separate tenant, and isolation is enforced in the database itself with PostgreSQL row-level security, backed by automated cross-tenant leakage tests on every change. Platform staff cannot see your emissions data by default. Dedicated and self-hosted options are available when you need them.

How long does onboarding take?

The target is a first dashboard within one to two weeks of kick-off, using asset templates (for example a spread-moored FPSO with gas export) and your base-year data.

Is EmitLedger certified to ISO 27001 or SOC 2?

Not yet, and we will not claim otherwise. We run a lightweight information-security management system from the start, and certification is on our roadmap. The security page describes the controls in place.
